I plan to do an 'End of Chapter' Supplement between each chapter, if I find there is enough time. Little 'goodies' that give a more in depth look into some aspect of the story. This time we've got a guide to Daily Leisure Credit.

See you on Friday for Chapter 2 title page, and don't forget to look back at last Sundays page if you missed it.

You thought of everything to make that presentation look real. This sound like something that could actually happen. I just don't understand how they could go about incorperating this. maybe they pay the employee's for the whole day, and deduct things not work related.

I think it is something that could actually happen (puts on tinfoil hat). It was fun to think up some of these ridiculous scenarios, but then again some of them aren't so. Scary!

This is a very smart thing you're doing.

Running through my brain while I'm reading this - excellent, informative, frightening presentation:

I know the corporation is properly named Swaine, but my brain immediately jumped to SWINE! As in greedy, bloated, subliminal evil!

I can easily see how society would slowly bend in this direction. I really love this twisted concept you have going here.

I look at my cell phone bill and I think Swaine corp is here already? Data plans, Friends and Family plans.... I can't help but connect some of these dots together already. I think I should be afraid.

I look at American politics (My knowledge base is limited to my own country, and even then I'm not that up to speed on how things are done), and I imagine all it would take to get us into a Swaine society (sorry, I like the term Swaine society for some reason) would be to just keep altering every day verbage into something less intrusive and threatening to cover up whats really going on.

Its not a Tax, its service fee.

It's a temporary rate hike that will sunset in just a few short years (long enough for you to get used to the increase and forget why we 'had' to raise prices in the first place).

Your page here comes off as slick, well thought out, and very entertaining. Nice work!

Thanks for the feedback! I'm not a big cell phone user myself but I don't doubt the parallels there. Though I AM (or rather used to be) a big videogamer, which is where the idea originally came from, with all the current trends of DLC, DRM, Microtransactions etc. It certainly isn't a concept that is too far fetched I think, and your interpretation of how it could go down and be implemented little by little isn't either, which is kind scary.

As far as SWAINE goes, I took the Wes Craven route, it was the name of a school bully. Guess it works out that it kinda sounds like Swine too hahah

Well... That was the most terrifying thing I've ever read. You've made the most frightening Cyberpunk world I've ever seen. O_O

In conclusion: VERY IMPRESSED

I am a tech for a cell company. I like the spin on how this is to "help" you and make your life better...for a small fee. I feel like I'm at work in a training now, lol.

Haha, yes. It's always for 'your benefit'! Locked On-Disc-DLC in videogames is to help you with download times! : P

I really hate to be the person to say this, but on the "How much does it cost?" page, you repeatedly have use "fee's" when you should simply have "fees". There are a couple of other times you do it in there. Sorry :I

Regardless, this really helps bring a lot about the world together. It's really informative, and also shows a lot about the world outside of the slums we've seen so far (obviously this is affordable for a large number of people, and the visual style indicates something of the upper levels). It's a little hard to put it in context when we don't know how much the average person nor Vinnie makes, but it's still great!

Good catch, spelling was never my strong point, it seems, I've since edited the spelling errors. Thanks for the feedback. I'm not sure how much I'm going to delve into the specifics of how much a character makes, I don't know if I want the math to become such a big issue other than 'it's expensive and really sucks' for the characters, though later on I may have to as the story develops, we'll see!
ZanderKreegan 30th May 2013, 11:52 AM edit delete reply
As opposed to a direct "Vinnie makes 200 a day" you could also give a small comparison. whether this is direct (This upper-level guy makes 100 times more than Vinnie) or indirect (a talk show where they literally spend these credits to make these credits) can show how crappy he has compared to those far more opulent. Just gives them slightly more context.

I love the infographic of the cop workin' on that dude's ribs. It's for his own benefit, dammit.

You're really pro at this, dude. Animation I mean.

Also the Interaction Tax is horrible. Just horrible. And not not all that far-fetched in a dystopian kinda way...

Great chapter, first of all. And this little infomercial is certainly making me thankful for the privacy we still have in today's world.... goodness. I think I would be heading for the hills in this society. Thats of course if I could afford the "on foot travel" rates.

Yours is probably the #1 or at least in top 3 in 'how to screw people up' ladder :x

This is so incredible! Really sardonic writing in here, and great presentation. Really loving this webcomic so far. I've never read an interactive one before, and watching the scenes play out makes me think that its missing music. Maybe not your intention, but for some reason I keep hearing this soft electro-elevator music.

Hey thanks JM, the original intention for the comic was to have music and sound effects included, but it would have cased some performance issues so I had to decide against it.

How else can we make money off of the future general public?
Charge them for socializing! And then appear to be a friendly corporation by telling them how convenient it is to pay for said fees and allow free less than 25 seconds interaction!
