Welcome to the start of the Summer hiatus. For those of you new to Buytime Time this is a break while I rebuild my buffer so I can maintain a regular update schedule for Chapter 5. Thanks for your patience. You'll see stuff like this each week (though often with more Roughs vs Cleans, this 'ad's and logo's thing is new) and a 1 panel peek at next chapter at the end of each.

A little reader participation for you Autonoms; anyone who listened to the interview with Harry Bentley will know we're going to see a Strikeball match next chapter, I need a name for Galvin's semi-professional team, "The Hyperion City ________'s" (or in short, "The ______'s") Make your suggestion in the comments, and I'll choose 1 and design their logo based off of it. Cool? Cool.

Also did some html tidying on the extra pages (About, Cast, Links etc). I hate html. Check out the links page for some shiny new banners, for anyone who has linked to Buying Time. The Hommages Page is going to be replaced with an FAQ page soon as well.

I almost forgot to mention thanks to those of you who donated to Buying Time this week, Michael C., Kendall B., Erik G and Richard Z. Thanks!!

See you next Sunday!

The advertising logo things are really cool - and lol at blanking out the eyes to protect "identity". Made me laugh at that little detail!
Liska 8th Jun 2014, 2:48 PM edit delete reply
Oh, and how about the Brawlers for the name?
Liska 9th Jun 2014, 3:53 AM edit delete reply
Can't figure out how to edit my other post! Coming back to suggest the Tankers, since it just popped into my head

Thinking up names is not a talent of mine, but here goes anyway

Sharks, Slammers, Slickers, Crushers, Predators, Shockwaves, Punishers, Mavericks, Masters, Devils, Man-eaters, Horrors, Sharpshooters, Hawks, Dragons, Bullets, Slayers, Scorpions, Heroes, Conquistadors, etc

"Strikers," "Killers," or "Hoppers" (these are all especially bad)
lol "The Screaming Divas" "The Flaming Pink Flamingos" "The Happy Hookers"
mountain0goat 8th Jun 2014, 2:56 PM edit delete reply
Is Osoalex based on someone real? ;-)

Now, about those names. lets start with the corny ones:
Widow Makers, Drive Shafters, Pain Greeters, Chameleons.

The... um...yeah ones:
Teabaggers, Abortionists (is that even a thing?!), Bullet Jizzers.

The absolutely retarded ones:
Mastificators, Coffee Cups, Spoilers ("Dumbeldore dies in book 6 motherf***er!!" - a typical taunt), Sloths, and last but not least: Hyperion City Mountain Goats!

Yes, Oso did some fanart for me, I try to put people's characters in as background extra's if they do fanart but Oso's character was anthropomorphic, so I went with a 'company mascot'.

I love your logo animations. Body Harmony is especially great.

Digging pensive Galvin in the sneak peek for chapter five. Looks like we'll get a an idea what the surface looks like. Can't wait! :D

A little peek, yes. It will be more clear when you read the actual page, of course!

I always thought "Constructicons" was a cool sounding name. Buuuuut if that reference is too obvious, how about:

the Monkeywrenches, the Crashers, the Fists, the Misfits, the Hordes, the Men-at-Arms, the Silverbolts, the Orbots, the Hefties, the Cavaliers, the Swindlers, the Black Lions, the Hiss Tanks, the Switchblades....

For a name, What about the Autonoms?

Also, You can get DLC from someone besides Swaine Corp?
Why doesn't Vinny just try to find a cheaper distributor of DLC?
Or are they a complete monopoly?
Notos 8th Jun 2014, 4:28 PM edit delete reply
Notos
There are other DLC retailers, but I look at it the same way you look at an Internet Service Providers; you go with the one that sucks the least. Swaine is probably the lesser of other evils.
Wuffles 8th Jun 2014, 4:16 PM edit delete reply
You say Swaine corp is the LEADING provider of DLC. Are there any competitors, or did Swaine muscle them out of the picture?
Notos 8th Jun 2014, 4:29 PM edit delete reply
Notos
There are competitors, but Swaine is the by far the most dominating presence, they probably offer the most in terms of packages and options.
R-9822 8th Jun 2014, 4:27 PM edit delete reply
My suggestions!
Cogs / Gears Force Sophists
Nyx Zephyrs Vires
Paragons Cipher Survivors

(Yes, some of these are purposefully non-sporty.)
R-9822 8th Jun 2014, 4:28 PM edit delete reply
Wah! Each word is a SINGLE name! There are ten names there, not three!
BigfootGolem 8th Jun 2014, 4:37 PM edit delete reply
All these logos are so damn cool. I especially love the Body Harmony one coming from circles.

Who's PJ though, he's mentioned in the circular text for Mac's Credit Loans, but nowhere else?
BigfootGolem 8th Jun 2014, 4:42 PM edit delete reply
Also, suggestion for the team would be Hyperion City "Heroes" or "Hard-cores" (Since I have a thing for alliteration.)

Love the hiatus stuff so far. And let's see, about team names, hm...
The Hyperion City - Wreckers; Centurions; Ballerz; Gears/z; Sweet Cheeks (nah, just kidding on this one) :)

My suggestion is the Hyperion City Meteors. It sounds good.
Timet 8th Jun 2014, 6:26 PM edit delete reply
So, judging by the end image, do people actually leave the city from time to time to go topside?
Notos 8th Jun 2014, 7:58 PM edit delete reply
Notos
Yes. This is a good time to refer to the brand new FAQ section, look under "Autonom". In short yes, people chose to leave from time to time for day trips (be sure to wear that 2000 Sunblock) and some choose to live out there.

My original guess as to Galvin's "Idea" was a trip outside the range of DLC, so that they could spend some time together without having to worry about Vinnie and his credit issues... maybe even meet Vinnie's parents. The sneak preview rough certainly doesn't do anything to put aside those thoughts...

Well, the sketch we see here is the wastelands, and the last panel for Chapter 4 is indeed the sublevels, so there will be a few different things going on next chapter.

Logos for fictional companies are a thing that I love dearly for some reason. I used to doodle 'em up all the time, still do every now and then. Yours are super charming~

The sneak peek is... intriguing. Very intriguing.

I did listen to part of the interview, and it seemed well-done, but ultimately a lot of the info seemed to be stuff that you'd already told us. As for the team... hmm. Okay, semi-pro means they won't have one of the more obvious names like "The Meteors" or "The Wasteland Marauders". Also, the fact that Galvin is their captain might heavily impact the name choice. Given that...

The Explosions, The Motorists, The Snapshots, The Half-Synth Stargazers

Yeah I've always enjoyed making up logos for bogus companies for personal projects, it's what allowed me to be able to get into doing some logo designs for actual companies in my early years of freelancing.

I adore these logos! Ever think of going into advertising? ;)

Strikeball team names huh? How about:

Vaporizers
Clock Cleaners
Gear Crushers
Pale Riders
Psychopomps
Heaven's Missle
Reducers
Decim88tors
DDoS
Bloody Hacks

Eh, that's all I got.

I've got a couple ideas. I'm thinking The Guardians, The Punks, or, The Scoundrels. Chose mostly semi-bad guy names since most of their team are named after a team of antiheroes. Guardian was just a curve ball that I liked. I really enjoyed this chapter. You're really awesome man!
AD 9th Jun 2014, 8:30 AM edit delete reply
Not sure if anyone mentioned it, but there might be a small typo in this segment, for Mac's: "Did we mention you can trust us?"

Also, I really appreciate the extra material you include during the hiatuses. Always cool to see more behind the scenes progress, and it's so convenient to be able to read the chapters all in one go.

Hey! I absolutely love the unique style and composition of this comic. You're really taking advantage of the webcomic medium. Hope you build your buffer fast. ;)

Hmmm names, names.
The GearCrushers sounds kinda cool. Or Ace-5 (or however many are on a Strikeball team). I kinda like that because his "A1!" could link to it somehow.
The Hyperion City Hyper-Slams.
Heavy-Metal Body Rockers. Speed-Synthonics (Synth, Symphonic, these synths bring a symphony of pain onto the competition - get it? huh? okI'mdone.) Or Synthonic Slammers. Or Slam-Synthonics. Or just Synthonics, I think that sounds pretty sweet.
Or Drillers. Because there should always be an obvious sexually-charged choice.

First time commenter. This is fun! :D

My first hiatus but I don't mind at all :D

though I'm bad with making up names, the fact that I'm actually studying Latin and Ancient Greek might be helpful a little here xD

At least since "Hyperion" is one of the the "Titans" born to Uranos (heaven) and Gaia (earth) why no0t call the team the "Titans" though the name is oversed maybe...

with some of his other brothers he was holding his father in place to let yet another brother (Kronos) use a scythe to "unman" him as per the request of their mother, so they could also be the "Emasculaters" xD

but since "Hyperion" is also one of the by-names of "Helios" (sun) thee'd be stuff like the "Flames" or "Burns" or "Blazes"

yeah I'm not very good with these things but hey, why not use that knowledge I have to make a meaningful name ^^

see you next week!

Hope you're enjoying your hiatus Notos.

You like homages so Galvin's homage to Vinny could be to name the team the "Gunners"
Kailey 10th Jun 2014, 5:02 AM edit delete reply
Goodness! I absolutely LOVE the explanation on the logos. The fascination of recognizing some, and then the mystery of, now where was that now? It's like a treasure hunt! I am continually struck with how much detail you put into this story. The fact that you have something in mind for each background logo. Wow. You truly are incredible, thanks for showing us this treat!!

Now as for names....

I know a few people already said this, or it was part of a bigger name, but the first thing that came to me was Gears.

It's the fact that the imagery of gears is wonderful. But also this is a technological world. It is based on tech and objects more than people. Yet gears are an ordinary object that is not just a thing of the past.

It may not be nitro, but it's power is taken for granted. Now that may sound like a bad thing, but think of it like this: who is more powerful someone constantly having to flash it and boast about their power, or someone who wields it so naturally that is would be unnatural for the person to not have power. The shiver up your spine, part of the core of that person, kind of power. Gears are the thing that is behind clocks, and engines (I THINK, might be wrong on that part), and yes, possibly cities. They are overlooked, but powerful.
Notos 10th Jun 2014, 3:43 PM edit delete reply

Thanks glad you liked it! I found myself running out of stuff to reference and hommage, so there was a lot of new original logo's this chapter, it felt appropriate to give some context to them. I'll do some more for next chapter as well.
Also, Suggestions with 'Gears' seem to be popular so far.

Hi-I'm yet another person here from Alex's recommendation. I read Buying Time all the way through that first night and have been loving it ever since. Thanks for giving us cool stuff to enjoy even during your hiatus.

My idea for the team name is The Hyperion City Levellers (or Levelers, I think I might be using the British spelling.)

There's the whole "upper level, lower level" thing, of course. But they also level (knock down) the competition. And another definition of leveller is "a person who advocates for the abolition of inequalities." Also something that makes things equal. It can also apply to someone who is "on the level"-honest and true.

I don't mind you being on hiatus when we get such cool stuff to look at.
For sport names - I like the Levellers that One Traveller came up with. It's meta-cool. :)
Also - we in australia have a magazine for young girlies called Dolly that uses stars as well. I don't know whether you intended it that way - but it made me giggle that Dolly would move from Girly magazines, to porn. :D

It's probably the very same one! I found the image on a wonderful tumblr that has all kinds of cheesy and over the top 80's ads and images. This particular one had the typical gigantic hair, legwarmers and sunglasses on it, with the bright logo that caught my eye, so I snagged it. Funny to hear what it's actually from.
