No you're not seeing things, Galena's hair IS different. I make an effort to give the characters various clothes, but Galena is also going to have a different hairstyle everytime we see her. She's fresh like that.

Ugh, I was wincing at how much that 1:25 interaction cost him. Heck, I started grinding my teeth at that 75 credit connection fee.

I would totally start a revolution...only I cant afford to interact with my fellow revolutionists. Those greedy corporate bastards.

There is probably a 'Revolution Pack' available for purchase, save on angry chants and yelling. (Additional fees for chants that rhyme.)

Well, DLC certainly is frustrating. Are you planning to delve into WHY people are forced to use DLC? This is a great comic. I almost didn't read it because of so few pages but I realized very quickly that you covered entire conversations that would take a normal comic three or four pages in just one. I like the animations. They draw me back to the picture instead of just reading the dialogue which I tend to do if I'm plowing through a comic.

One question, is there a way to go backwards on the dialogue? There were a few times my computer read my click as a double click when reading conversations so I actually missed a couple speech bubbles.

I probably wont go into detail as to why it exists other than corporate greed, same reason these kinds of microtransactions exists in our world now.

There currently isnt a way to go back other than reloading the page, though a "back" button is an interesting idea, I'll definitely think about putting one in.

This comic is amazing. the art is just spectacular and the dialogues are superb. This kinda reminds me of "in Time" where time is the money. I'm so in love with this.

so basically he chose the 24000 credits package and 200 credits is the minute of interaction mm so he can talk 2 hours wow. I hope there is some person such as Galvin has a basement with no electric devices around to talk freely :P just an idea. hey this sounds weird but what about people who like talking to themselves (for example someone singing or recitating) does that count into DLC. Great comic.

Yep basically 2 hours. In that world it's a huge amount of time, people are used to not conversing. It will go quickly though because of all the additional tacked-on fees. Talking to yourself wouldn't cost anything because the 'system' will not detect a secondary voice or presence. The 'room with no electrical devices' is kinda something that happens later in the story, but in a different kind of way. Stay tuned.

The DLC system is making me feel paranoid, as if every social interaction you have is being monitored. Seems ripe for a group of Parkour-using couriers.

I finished all of chapter 1 before posting anything, and have a couple pages on queue still, but find time slowly catching up to me, I may find myself having to break and build up a queue in a month, we'll see. I rough a page out in my free time after work throughout a week, and spend the weekend, and parts of the following week cleaning and finalizing.

Ha, interesting thought. It could be a work around maybe, unless the city officials suddenly notice a massive spike in ASL classes. Now I'm picturing underground 'ASL rings' in the slums of the city.

I am losing my shit with how cool this comic is. When I got to choose the credit amount for purchase my eyes lit up a kid in a candy store. The DLC is a genius concept, the cityscape is so wonderfully drawn, I've never seen anything like this in a webcomic. I am going to continue geeking out on every page and leave comments repeatedly

It wasn't intentional but I certainly see the similarity. The original intention was to meld the image Swaine holds of itself (a 4 leaf clover) and the public holds of Swaine (chain links). Though in sense the likeness to a swastika makes sense too in a round about way I suppose.

Thought I'd restart this excellent comic, and… it's so much darker already, on my second reading.

Knowing more about the psychological and social impact of DLC—how commodifying a basic human need conspired to isolate Vinnie, repress Fridge and crystalise the stratification of Hyperion City—it's actually difficult to read. I can feel the tension that DLC introduces into every interaction, the mingled sense of dread and desperate hope that comes with anticipating it.

Vinnie stopped taking his P-Com out, which is borderline illegal, because he saw no chance of interacting with other humans. He hasn't visited his friends for months! That's not just tragic, it's psychologically damaging. Every time a charge notification appears, I wince inside; it's a constant reminder of the brokenness of this whole system and all the people in it.

I'd be really interested in learning how DLC impacts children and young students. Is there an exemption or heavy discount below certain age levels, or could your ten-year-old bankrupt you? There's got to be something for very young children since they need contact to survive and still learning to speak, not to mention just being able to contribute in class.
