Don't forget your dual-band sunscreen. And respirators. And survey meters.

Thanks for Gerardo and Edward who donated to the comic this past week, much love!

See you next Sunday.

Man your comic keeps getting better and better! It's almost like watching an animated cartoon. Love the designs of everything, especially the buggys! Galena is looking smoking hot! I wish more women would greet me like that! Just come right up and squeeze my ass!
Hell yeah!
Sofia T. 22nd Mar 2015, 4:50 AM edit delete reply
Well, that's called sexual harassment; and since we don't like have it done to us, we try not to do it to others. Galena is... special, I guess?

At a young age age it became painfully apparent to me that there was a certain "disparity" between men and women when it came to accessing the most basic needs a human being has, things like; companionship, touching, love, etcetera. I noticed it was incredibly difficult for a male to acquire these things, but ridiculously easy for a female to acquire them. You see, women take things like love, companionship, touch, etcetera for granted because they can have it whenever they want: men can't, so it's a big deal to us, and just about all women know this and use this knowledge full well to their advantage all throughout their lives. So okay, yeah, the idea of a Sadie Hawkins type character that actually makes a move on a man for once excites me, and I apologize if offended your psycho feminist belief system. Cheers!

Being able to have something whenever you want, and having it thrust at you when you're trying to get on with normal life, are not the same thing. FYI, plenty of women struggle to find love, and plenty of men would be super-uncomfortable with someone randomly touching them uninvited.

So, yeah, fine that you'd dig it, but don't use that as an excuse to mock the idea that two people should actually *consent* to intimacy, rather than having to go out of their way to avoid it.

Apologies if that offends your self-centred victim belief system.

You've been making assumptions from the beginning.
How the hell do you know that I think?
I wouldn't "use that as an excuse to mock the idea that two people should actually *consent* to intimacy, rather than having to go out of their way to avoid it"?
Maybe I agree with you! But in this particular HYPOTHETICAL circumstance, if a person found someone very attractive, (I'm talking about myself and not Galvin), then I wouldn't have a problem with them grabbing my ass. If you have a problem with that concept, THEN THAT IS YOUR PROBLEM AND NOT MINE!
ChristinaSJ 24th Mar 2015, 5:08 PM edit delete reply
Hilarious xD! You really think that? - that women "have it easy", while men "struggle"?

Thats such a stereotype! (mostly presented by frustrated males, who have been friend-zoned by pretty girls).

Plenty of women make moves on men - and plenty of them get refused. I am a woman and personally I have both experienced "feast" and "famine" in the love/sex department. I have been adored by several men and also been rejected many times by others - and everyone I know, both men and women, experience not just one or the other, but both during their lives.

I know you cant decide who you fall in love with/who you want to get it on with, but if some people keep getting refused, they should not blame it on the other sex, but look inwards and see if they can improve their approach. (Or move on and find a better match. Often a rejection is actually a gift, as it prevents you from spending time on the wrong person)

So, once upon a time, scientists asked men and women what they were most afraid of in dating.

Men were afraid a woman would laugh at them.

Women were afraid a man would kill them.

Can we trade?

(Oh, and calling women/feminism 'psycho' when they disagree with you? Totally proving the point that women's thoughts and feelings are dismissed every time they're inconvenient for a man.)

You make a good point, but every time I have ever seen a woman feel even the slightest bit threatened, there is always another man there who will step in to defend her, even if that man is a complete stranger.
Sanbai 11th Apr 2015, 1:44 AM edit delete reply
Hah! Exactly. I'd never want to put a man in the position I've been in before - it's pretty off-putting, personally. But Galena is...special! Even my delicate feminine self might not mind a quick rump-pass from such a person...!

Thanks Chris. The goal is to sort of bridge the gap between mediums of comic and cartoon with the little animated eyecatchers and cel shading.

As far as Galena goes, I mentioned this on another forum, she is essentially my creative outlet for all the hate/shaming busty and sexually dominant female characters have been getting in video games and comics lately.
A large number of great characters are shit on for no reason outside of having large breasts or being upfront in their sexuality and it isn't fair.
Fluffhoof 23rd Mar 2015, 8:26 AM edit delete reply
If I may add my bit, I think the hate/shaming is coming from a place of frustration, as there really isn't that much diversity when it comes to female bodies. There's not enough women who are short or tall, or fat, or skinny AND flat chested, or old... It's fine to have pretty, busty and sexually dominant young woman, but that trope feels pretty overdone at this point. (I'm not saying Galena is bad.)

Anyway, great chapter as always, I wonder if Fridge will just keep talking for the whole trip, just another part of the background, everyone mostly ignoring his monologues...
Sanbai 11th Apr 2015, 1:49 AM edit delete reply
THIS COMMENT SOO MUCH! I don't mind busty or sexy ladies in video games - but when it's the only female type included, on and on and on and their chests or their need for rescue are their sole purpose of inclusion it's...pretty darn dry fare. (Particularly if you are, ahem, a lady.) Thanks for the comment, Fluff!

Thanks dpalle. How I upload it? ComicFury has support for swf's (files exported from Adobe Flash) which is a big part of the reason I chose them as a host. You upload a swf the same way as a jpg or any image file.

top notch work as usual. I tried doing a quick animation, but it did not come out anywhere near as well as the stuff you crank out all the time.

To be fair a lot of the stuff in Buying Time is more loops and 'eyecatchers' like the neon signs and such. More complex character animation takes a lot of time and practice. Hell I've been in the industry for 8 years and am still learning. Maybe post your stuff sometime.

I'm surprised how well-developed the transport outside Hyperion's crater an be. I wonder - can the über-über rich live out on the surface, and use those monorails to commute? With all the advantages of being just off the grid? That'd be a pretty sweet deal.

Another beautiful update, as always. Thanks again!
Notos 23rd Mar 2015, 12:51 AM edit delete reply

The monorail is entirely for the Travel Bureau "tourist" locations, outside of those several locations it isn't a very viable transport system. You have to travel by dune buggy outside of that.

I'm not sure that the hate lately has been about busty and sexually dominant women. From my point of view, the problem is with characters who are used as eye candy and who have no reason that makes sense to be depicted in a sexy way. Galena has agency and it's clear that she decides how to dress and she does it for a purpose. That's very different from a game where the male version of a character is in full plate and the female is in a chainmail bikini.

There's something so right about Fridge endlessly chattering off into the horizon line with a 'captive' Mackie that it makes me think you've giddily had that shot in your mind for a while.
